This collaborative display with artists Jaeyoung Park and Eunbin Jung was conceived as part of the exhibition ⟪DO NUT CLIMB!⟫. In Eunbin Jung’s Image-piece ⟨Orchard⟩, the circular symbol signifying an “orchard” is hollow at its center. If we look through the shell of the signifier as though the flesh of a fruit had been carved out, turning it into a window open in both directions, the works of Jaeyoung Park and Jiyun Seong come into view on either side.
On the left, Jaeyoung Park’s ⟨Still Green⟩ is a product of modern sport: one climbs toward a goal and, at the final point, confirms one’s achievement as though picking a fruit. Jiyun Seong’s ⟨The Loop(...)⟩, by contrast, contains biological elements. Extending this further, as if to insist that even a living being in nature—the supposed fulfillment and fruit of father and mother—is never a simple entity, the dismantled loop beside it suggests that the idea of “natural sex” cannot be reduced to a binary.
